![]() | Networking TMers, This morning's topic is networking and the need to get together with colleagues whenever possible to exchange and hatch ideas. If you've been following the orchestral/solo/chamber music thread the last few days you'll know that a fabulous trumpet concert happened this past Thursday and Friday nights at the Disney Hall in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Philharmonic presented both Alison Balsom and Gabriele Cassone in Zimmermann's trumpet concerto "Nobody knows de trouble I see" and Berio's Sequenza X respectively. It was fabulous to hear not one but two highly respected trumpeters in the same program. After the performance last night Philharmonic trumpeters Chris Still, Jim Wilt, and Boyde Hood were joined at a local watering hole by both soloists, as well as TM's own Tom Dambly (down from the Bay Area for the show), Bob Malone (recently moved back to town), and local trumpeters Wayne Bergeron, Tim Morrison, Jens Lindemann, and myself. Two of my students, Chris Kallmyer and Philippe Brunet, made the scene as well. After a bit of lubrication Boyde (USC), Jim (Colburn), Jens (UCLA), and I (CalArts) hatched a plan to present a joint class for all of our students on a bi-monthly basis starting in March. Our hope is that this will be a terrific opportunity for our students not only to get some extra feedback but also to meet and network themselves. Good things happen when colleagues meet face-to-face. What a loss if any of us had decided to rush home after the show. Get out of the house, away from the computer, and network. Comments? ![]() ![]() | Re: Networking Amen. I hung last week with my improv idol Jerry Bergonzi and we're going to start playing sessions together. Just because I paid $9 to go see him! The BEST deal in the world. This last week I played sessions on every day. what a blast. I can't wait to go see Hakan. hopefully we can grab a pint after the Saturday show if I dare go backstage! |
