Hmm. I had the exactly opposite experience. Listened to Andre then Hollinger. Who did you listen to? I guess it's really up to the individual regardless of the instrument.

It is interesting to note what is so special abou the oboe that Marcello would write such a piece. Long phrases are surely part of that. Incredible dynamics - probably not. It is a baroque solo so some flash is not bad - the flash should be intelligently dosed however. Heinz Holliger plays wonderfully, but perhaps a bit conservative. My personal favorite for this is: English Baroque Soloists Simon Dent: Oboe. He uses the baroque oboe and gives great insite into what is possible with this instrument.
