Thanks,

I haven't visited the website yet, but will try. How would you describe the three pieces you've mentioned? Avant Garde or less so? Difficulty level??

They're unfamiliar names to me until now.

Re: tpt chamber rep./need everyone's input!

Hello again, everyone...

I've been collecting a rather long list of chamber rep. with trumpet, as you might imagine. I didn't have time to type much of it in last night when I did my initial post. The following are some more pieces from that list.

My question is, have any of you played or heard recordings of these items? The list will still be quite incomplete!

Mark Alan Taggart-Song at Sunset, tpt w/str 4tet
Kurt Schwertsik-Proviant, tpt w/ww 5tet
Gardner Read-Nine by Five, tpt w/ww 5tet
Clifford M. Shipp- Six Var. on a 13th C. Minnelied, tpt w/ww 5tet
Arsenio Giron-Sextet, tpt w/ww5tet
Milhaud-Aspen Serenade, fl/ob/cl/bsn/tpt/vn/vla/vc/cb
Virgil Thompson-Sonata da Chiesa, e-flat cl/tpt/vla/hn/trb
Daniel Pinkham-Divertimento, tpt/harp
Paul Muller-Zurich op. 21-Nonet, ob/bsn/hn/tpt/vn/2 vla/vc/cb

and a few more familiar items...

Chavez-Soli, ob/cl/tpt/bsn
Janacek-Capriccio, fl/2tpts/ten tuba/3 trb/pf
Vincent D'Indy-Suite in Olden Style, tpt/2fl/str 4tet/cb ad libitum

Thanks again!

The Revueltas of which I'm aware--
Ocho por Radio
Two Little Serious Pieces
Tocatta

(I'll omit the Hommage a Federico Garcia Lorca for now, as being too large.)

[quote=ecarroll;285151]Jeff,

This is a enormous topic that should stretch well past your deadline I'm afraid. That said I'll get cracking at it after teaching today.

Thanks, so much, Ed! I appreciate your help...

PS. I don't know this Vackar piece, but I love his tpt/organ piece "Prayer for a Dead Soldier." What's this one like?

Vackar: Concerto (trumpet, percussion, piano, double bass)

Re: tpt chamber rep./need everyone's input!

Hi Jeff-

The Ardevol was published by the Pan American Union in DC; Peer International Corp. was/is the sole selling agent. It might be completely out of print by now. My score is pretty old (and the purchase price said $3.25) I'm not sure where I picked it up - quite possibly some flea market!

I think the Casella was available from Boosey & Hawke when we did it - but it might be rental only at this point. I'm afraid that concert was over 10 years ago, and I've forgotten a lot of the nitty gritty details about where we got parts. I'll see what info I can come up with tonight.

Best of luck with the article - sounds like you've gotten lots of good pieces to put out there, at least!

Sandy

Re: tpt chamber rep./need everyone's input!

Jeff,

The Janacek Capriccio should have popped into my head immediately. Various others (Octandre, Ocho, the Zwillich piece for 5, etc.) have already been mentioned.

John Wallace recorded the Vackar Concerto years ago on Nimbus and it's a fabulous piece.

I hope the following aren't repetitive. We've done (or are doing) most of them the past few years at CalArts:

P. M. Davies: Quintet (tpt , str. 4tet)
Hindemith: Septet (fl, ob, cl, bs cl, bsn, hn, tpt)
Mozart: Divertimenti (2 fl, 5 tpts, timp)
Wolpe: Piece (solo tpt, cl, hn, 2 vlns, vc, db)
Gubaidulina: Trio (3 tpts)
Wolff: Mosaic Trio (tpt, vln, piano)
Trio #1 (fl, tpt, vc)
Pulse (tpt, perc)* just recorded by Reinhold Friederich
Birtwistle: Hoquetus Petrus (2 fl, picc tpt)
Silkhouse Tattoo (2 tpts, side drums)* premiered by John Wallace et moi
Erickson: The Idea of Order at Key West (sop, fl, cl, bs cl, tpt, vla, vc)
Schoenberg: Nachtwandler (sop, picc, tpt, perc, piano)
Ives: From the Steeples and the Mountains (chimes, tpt, trb)
Chaves: Soli (ob, cl, bsn, tpt)
Surinach: Ritmo Jondo (cl, tpt, tamburo, xylo, timp, handclappers)
Fenton: Five Parts of the Dance (tpt, marimba, piano)
Wilder: Suites for Trumpet and Marimba #1 & 2
Stockhausen: TrumpeTent (4 trumpets)
Quitt (alto fl, cl, picc tpt)
Bassetsu-Trio (basset horn, tpt, trb)
Licht-Ruf (same)
Kagel: Morceau du Concours (2 tpt version)
Whittenberg: Variations (fl, ob, cl, bsn, hn, tpt, trb, vln, db)

There are certainly more that are escaping my memory. Stay tuned...

Best,
EC

Re: tpt chamber rep./need everyone's input!

Hi Jeff!

Here is a dissertation that might help you a bit in compiling your list:

The literature for trumpet in mixed chamber music of the twentieth century.

Kurt George Gorman

Here is the worldcat link:

Hope this helps.

I look forward to the article.

Thanks, everyone... My incomplete survey of rep. for the ITG is now complete!

I appreciated your suggestions! They were very helpful.
