| Piano User | Re: Upcoming Concerts Ed, Congratulations to both you and your students on a memorable performance. I had a couple of questions. What happened with the video on the Kagel? I wasn't sure if there was a technical problem or if the video was something that couldn't be seen on the video. Also, how much of the piece was notated and how much was improvised? It was a very effective and theatrical performance. My hats off to the performer for not being afraid to dive headfirst into the performance. I really thought that the staging of Calls and Echoes, minimal though it was, was very effective. It shows how a little bit can go a long way to enhance the performance. My congratulations especially to Stephanie Richards. Regardless of it already being in her repertoire, pulling off an outstanding performance of Kryl on two weeks notice is very admirable. -Matthew |

![]() | Re: Upcoming Concerts Hi Matthew, Thanks for tuning in and for your kind comments. There actually were no plans for video during Atem (the score doesn't specify one); there was some confusion around that point in the initial announcement -- sorry about that. However, it would probably be quite appropriate to create some sort of video to be screened during a performance of Atem, perhaps in the spirit of Kagel's film Antithese (1965) or Ludwig Van (1970). I'll see if I can get something together before I perform it again! The score is loosely notated, i.e., with graphics that use traditional noteheads, beaming, articulations and dynamic markings, but that do not specify pitches, since the piece is for any wind instrument, and the performer is directed to use at least three different instruments of his/her choice. -Tom Last edited by dambly; 04-16-2007 at 01:38 PM. |
