Through a process of non-analysis and just observing what is going on from a distance, he got me to play so much better.

So, what do you think about how to achieve this state of "distant oberservation" over "constant analysis"?
This is wonderful, sound, healthy advice. Thank you for sharing B.

Achieving it is simply to be aware of the breath at all times.

Alex,

Not to discount you thinking colors etc... (which I find very beautiful btw)...

I usually don't see SPOTS like that until I come off a really, really.. really long phrase.

Then I'm glad I was sitting down.

Re: What do you think about when playing?

When I'm reading the music I think about the phrasing I'm using or supposed to use. When I'm playing by memory like performing a solo I start out thinking about the music but my mind always wanders.

This might sound weird but I miss big chunks of my playing while performing because my mind wanders.

I remember one time coming back to reality and not knowing where I was in the music. I was still playing but my mind was thinking where am I.

I was never so lost that I had to stop or messed up.
