Greetings & Welcome !
Are you "The Michael" from Windy City who prior to your 50th birthday took the KIDS onto the stage of the OPRAH show while wearing a red shirt ?

I was on Oprah back in May of 2001 when she gave us $200 k through her Angel Network. Featured was a student of mine, Madeleine Mollinedo who was the first of her family to go to college. There was a scene or two of me with her, and yes, I had a red shirt on. I was the guy who looked like Drew carey. She got a music degree from IU and I am happy to report that we just this past year hired her as a trumpet teacher along with Steve Burns, and she has been fabulous. Such nachis I can't tell you.

Welcome, Mike!

I'm another Eastman alum. Had the pleasure to hang with some great people while I was there. Keep forgetting the name of that tall skinny kid from Missoula, Montana... Rudy Something-or-Other Not a bad player!

Cheers!

I'm 52, a trumpet player living and working in Chicago, and I teach at a school that specializes in giving away free stuff to kids, the Merit School of Music. Barbara Butler was my teacher at Eastman, and I have been a free-lancer in the Chicago area for years, doing jazz, classical, shows, blues, klezmer, whatever there's a paycheck for. Teaching has taken up more of my time lately. I recognize some of the names around here, Steve Burns is a colleague, Wilmer Wise used to post on the apparently defunct aol trumpet boards, Luis Loubriel who someone mentioned I used to work with, he replaced me as trumept teacher at the Sherwood Conservatory in Chicago. So greetings to all, I hope to participate in the discussions going on.

Hi Michael!!!

I finally got to know who you are.

I would be interested to know what klezmer music you have and if we could share some music.

I used to play with Lorie Lippitz and the Maxwell Street Klezmer band, and some other folks around Chicago. It was great fun. And I played with some pretty hard-core Lubavitch bands to except the two guys I used to work the most with both moved to Israel, Peretz Dissen and Bill Bozen. There is a special kind of endurance you need for those continuous 60 minute hora sets, my lips get a particular tingling feeling that I don't ever get from any other kind of playing. There's an occasional klezmer band that I work with every now and then called the Klezticles.
