| Hello From Cary, NC! Tuesday May 6, 2008 Hi, my name is John and I have played the trumpet pretty regularly (with a few interruptions) over the past 40 years. I am 49 years old and am an instructor at a small college here in North Carolina. My current trumpet is a used F. Schmidt model that I purchased just after Christmas (2007). Prior to that I played a Getzen Eterna Severinsen model trumpet since I was in the 9th grade. The valves began to stick and, after 2 unsuccessful (and expensive) repair attempts, I purchased the F. Schmidt horn, which has worked out very well for me. I use a Bach 1-1/2 C mouthpiece. I am an amateur player. I play occasionally with the Praise Band at my church and I played 2nd Trumpet in the Raleigh (N.C.) Symphony Orchestra (a Community Orchestra) for awhile last Spring. Scheduling conflicts have prevented me from playing with that group this year. I get together with a buddy of mine and practice trumpet duets about once a week. (Vizzutti Duets, Jazz Duets, Baroque Duets, etc.) For my personal practice (about 30 minutes a day, 5-6 days per week), I typically work out of Clarke's Technical Studies, The Charlier Etude Book, and an assortment of technical, etude, and sacred solo books that I have purchased over the years. My focus in the past few months has been on practicing some trumpet works by a composer named Dr. Lauren Bernofsky. She recently (just about 1 month ago!) completed an unaccompanied trumpet solo called "Fantasia for Solo Trumpet" that I commissioned. Also, she has composed an excellent Trumpet Concerto and another solo piece entitled "Saltarello". You can get information on the trumpet concerto and the "Saltarello" at her website: www.laurenbernofsky.com. I'd be happy to share copies of the "Fantasia" piece with any TrumpetMaster colleagues who contact me via e-mail (jwcwjc@yahoo.com). You could also contact Dr. Bernofsky for a copy via her website. I have been a HUGE fan of Doc Severinsen since about 1973. I have had the privilege of attending at least 8 of his concerts between 1973 and 2001. Other favorites of mine are: Maynard Ferguson, Allen Vizzutti, and Wynton Marsalis. I have a busy work schedule but enjoy playing (and talking about!) the trumpet when I can. Other hobbies are: woodworking, astronomy, and radio. I am looking forward to corresponding with other trumpet players and am especially looking forward to learning more about trumpet playing!
