Hello Everyone!

This is my first time to post at TM. A couple of months ago, I decided that while I was still in my youth (I'll be 50 in a couple of weeks), I would learn to play trumpet. I grew up in a VERY small town, and went to a small high school which didn't have band, so I was not exposed to brass instruments. I was around instruments in college, but I was a voice major (nuff said?). My church has a pretty good small ensemble, and I started getting interested. So I did a little research on-line, and decided to get an Olds Ambassador cornet at e-bay. It's a nice little horn from about 1958. I don't have a lot of time to practice, but it's coming along. It's hard to motivate myself into a good practice routine, so my range is developing rather slowly. My desire to buy more horns is developing rapidly though! Since buying the Ambassador in December, I have acquired the following:
1968-9 Olds Ambassador trumpet (which I have already sold)
1962 Holton Collegiate cornet in very good condition
and have bought on e-bay and not yet received:
1969 Reynolds Medalist cornet
1950 Olds Special cornet
I told my wife I wouldn't buy any more for a while. If I like the Special, I will sell some of the others. Not sure why I have gravitated towards cornets. I do like the more mellow sound, and cornets can be gotten a little cheaper. But I do plan on getting trumpets also. Hopefully work my up to an Olds Super or Recording one day. Looks like I'm gravitating towards vintage also!
I believe the Olds Special will require a large shank mpc. There is one with the horn, but I don't know what shape it will be in. If any of you members have personal experience with finding a large shank mpc, I would appreciate hearing from you. Or maybe direct me to an existing thread on the subject. Thanks for any help. Glad to be here!!
David

Welcome!
It's really great to see adults learning to play - I don't know how many times I've had someone tell me "I always wanted to learn but now it's too late..." It's never too late! Have fun learning! :)
