Hello out there...

Hello, my name is Ken and I am what you all call a "comeback" player. I got out of high school in 1971 and did not play much for a few years, then I joined an adult band that played Sousa type marches at ice cream socials and such for a couple years. My old horn (a Conn Director) met an untimely demise somewhere on the way down a very long flight of stairs (case fell open). The only other horn I had at the time was grandpa's old 1921 Conn 80A and it was pretty but leaking around the valves so much it is too hard to play. I had just got it back from being replated but the valves were shot and in the early 70's they said it couldn't be fixed. I sort of eventually lost interest through the years and forgot to someday get another horn.

Fast forward 30 years. I now have a daughter playing trumpet in high school, got her an old beater when she started and held true to my promise as I did for the flute player, and the clarinet player before her and bought her a decent horn for high school. Well, she sounds pretty darned good her first year in high school and while shopping I got the bug again. She is getting to the point she will soon play better than I did when I finished high school, I can't let her get ahead of me like that, so I sneak in her room and play her new Silver Flair whenever she does not take it to school, her beater stays at school since she plays more at home than at school.

I have won a couple Ebay auctions on some old horns and hopefully I will find a good sounding one to keep. I still have that 80A and it is on it's way to Andersons for a valve job. So who knows what I will end up with, I just know that new King I bought the daughter doesn't feel as nice as the one I tried out in 72......

Ken
