![]() ![]() | Re: why, hello there Wedcome and congrats on Daddyhood. You needn't worry about his horn for a while yet. And your strad is a plenty fine horn played by many a pro. Now about your heavy tongue. You may well benefit from what's known as k-modified tonguing. You anchor the tip of your tongue behind your bottom teeth, and use the area right behind it in an arch to open and close the air flow - it moves to and away from the roof of your mouth while the tip remains fixed behind your bottom teeth. Eric Bolvin has an article and video about it at: ::: Eric Bolvin Music Studios - Music and Trumpet Stuff::: at the upper right side of his page. I don't know if it will help or not but there is less overall tongue movement involved. Playing first chair with "throat" tonguing is pretty amazing, if you ask me (but nobody will).

I have 4 myself, 2 boys that play everything from Accordeon to Zabumba (including guitar, clarinet,Keyboards and now trumpet), and 2 girls that play just with our heads. I have a lot to learn, ´cause i´ve started just a few months ago. Hope to here from you. Doc |

![]() | Re: why, hello there I've heard many people say not to start a child on a wind instrument until all their permanent teeth set in. In regards to which horn to get when that time comes, a good student horn will last all the way up to high school if your son will be taking private lessons, in which that time to upgrade might come just a bit earlier.

That might be pushing it...but hey, if he can get where Chuck is by starting at age 6...so be it. I wish I had started that early....maybe I'd actually be okay! :) Russ Oh, and welcome, David. :)
