When you're using your body properly it really isn't that much different PROVIDED the horn is balanced well. Dave's are very well-balanced and don't feel burdensome unless you are kiind of tight to begin with. I don't know about other manufacturers.

Good point Manny. In fact, it could be that the French horn players would wonder how anybody could hold a horn in front of their face for any length of time no matter what size/weight it was for they are use to having their horn down on their lap. This could be true for any other musical instrument player who did not hold their horns like a trumpet player. Here, the trumpet players are talking about holding different weight horns. In the end, it all depends on what you want in terms of a sound and playability from your trumpet so as to put up with the other little factors associated with it.

If one gets tired from holding his horn, he probably gets tired from blowing it also. There is no easy way out of this. It takes training of the whole body and good health to keep up with this profession of trumpet playing.

I don't mind the little extra weight I have in the Taylor as compared to the Schilke that I have for the Taylor gives me the sound and playability that I want and enjoy the most. During the first week or so, I noticed the difference in weight but after that it is not an issue.

That's not at all the case with me. My upper back and sholders get tired. I don't think it's at all related the how I play.

VetPsychWars will become famous soon enough
I started on my grandfather's Buescher 400 from the late 40s, and it's the only horn I've ever played. I never thought of it as all that heavy, but I notice that other horns are a lot lighter! It's true that they project more in front than in back. I couldn't hear myself at all when playing outdoors.

Rowuk .....do know what the weight of your Anja is?

I have had my Taylor Lite for a little while now and found the weight (3lbs)to be a nice balance both in blow and heft. For fun I had the chance to try a Chicago Standard the other day and although it is only 8 ounces heavier than my horn I would have been a bit concerned that the extra weight might get to me on longer sessions...having said that I don't even think about the weight of my horn now.... however..... I have found I need to be considerate when it comes to volume....!
