Calicchio Bb Hi Tony---At one point I read where you, at one time, used a Calicchio Bb. I was thinking about a Calicchio but they're hard to find to find a dealer with good selection of horns to test. Could you give me advice on a Calicchio ? I'm looking for a ML with good blending capabilites. Not a lead of Big Band Horn but more or less a section or pit horn.

Re: Calicchio Bb I had a 1S7, and it actually seemed to be a very good "all around" horn. The bell had a fairly wide flair and it was easy to hear from behind the horn. I removed some braces and it really vibrated. I was sorry to see it go! Tony

Re: Calicchio Bb Tony-- Thanks for the info on your Calichhio. SInce the year is coming to an end I wanted to buy a horn for the Tax write-off. On my short list was a Conn (Vintage One), a Selmer 80J or Calicchio. I've been leaning towards Calicchio. Thanks-- John

I too had a Calicchio 1s7 (ML) years ago that seemed a very good around horn of the Calicchio line. However, I was recently in Branson MO for a week doing a Welk reunion show. Jay Daversa ... Welcome to the Website of Jay Daversa! ... has been experimenting with a ML bore #9 pipe R3 bell. Not just a great jazz player but a great alround player. And, another great lead player in Branson Darryl Ecsedy loves it for all out lead playing, so that might be another configuration as well. BTW I took a few braces off mine as well, and had amado spit valves put on it. Really lit that horn up. I still have not found anything better for me as an alround horn than what I have now. All the best. | |

Re: Calicchio Bb Hi Tony-- I used to be under "Schilke." I switched to "Brassmojo." I just purchased a 1S7 from Duda in Tulsa. I got the horn through Dick Ackright in Oakland. Dick knows Duda personally ( according to Dick Duda taught him to spin bells for his Bel Canto line) and I got the horn sort of quick. Duda is making a great horn. The 1S7 is great. It's weird how the horn has a lot of feed back. More than I've ever experience. Talk with you later. Brassmojo

Re: Calicchio Bb Cool - I'm glad it's working out! Calicchio has the rep of being a "commercial" horn, but I've found that it can be quite versatile too. Good luck with the new horn! Tony
