do you have any experience with in-ear monitors during live performances? I have trouble sometimes with the mix that I get on stage monitors for multiple sections (tpt and bones together for instance-everybody wants something softer/louder) and am looking for a solution. | |

| rowuk - I have not done too much with in-ear monitors. I've done a few things where the whole band has needed them for the click track, but it didn't involve hearing an actual mix. Also, I've never been able to play with earplugs, so in-ears would be a big adjustment for me. I'm currently doing a show where everything in on headphones. Although we all have individual mixers, the trumpet, trombone and french horn are all on the same track. I can hear myself when I'm playing high F's - which is about 1% of the time - but only hear trombone and french horn for the rest of the show. I basically just turn off the brass, take one side of the headphones off, and try to hear acoustically. Not ideal. I would check with TM member Allchops (Tony Gambaro). He may have had some experience with the in-ear thing. Good luck with it. If you find something that works, let us know. TK |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi Tony, I used to live in the Albany/Schenectady/Thatcher Park area. I am talking about standard Big Band gigs. I play lead and there is often discussion about the mix...... The mix-boards used have enough possibilities, it's just that I would prefer more lead in the mix because I do not hear myself as well as the people sitting in front of me do........................... |

| SoundBack Personally, I've been real happy with my SoundBack plexiglass disk. I get plenty off of that and I don't have to trust the sound man. However, I am doing jobbing dates and things are usually set up quickly and not ofen correctly. Also, the in ear things might help of the stage volume is to be minimized (in lieu of floor monitors). this is exactly my problem, the bad floor monitor mix. The sound back is a great idea that I haven't tried. I have to get one! | |

| Just another vote for the plexiglass disk. I used one for years in bands in NY and it will save your chops. It almost doesn't matter how loud the stage volume gets, you always have consistent feedback on your sound and volume. It definitely stops you from overblowing because you can't hear yourself over a loud band. Sound guys that want all the band's sound to go through the PA tend to like these too because it keeps your acoustic sound going through the mic rather than traveling off the stage independant of the PA. I definitely recommend one! -jp |
