| 'Falls' hi (yet) again! i have a question about falls - i know you play for composers who are smart enough to know the difference, so when do you play a 1/2 valve 'smear' as opposed to a 'valve flutter' fall? does it depend on whatever the copyist decides is the proper way to notate it? do you take into account the particular chord being played at the time? (for instance if there's a concert Ab7 going on, i like to fall using mostly just 1st valve.) i think this is something that is overlooked for the most part, but when the section follows along, it can be incredibly effective. now that i think of it, the same goes for 'doits.' when do you like to start/stop them? danny o |

| Re: 'Falls' Hey Danny! Nice to see you here! I usually just do half valves (easier for me) unless it's indicated otherwise. That being said, Don Sebesky always yells at us, "I need to hear VAVLES on that fall!" I guess that's one of the pitfalls of the arranger being a trombone player! TK |
