Re: Health Insurance

Jimi,

My insurance is Health Net sold by State Farm Insurance. My Hospital-Surgical policy is $5200 a year. It is portable anywhere in the United States. As a self employed musician you can deduct your health insurance from your income. I also carry a cancer policy from Allstate. Allstate sells it in its supplemental line. As a young person I suggest you get doctor visit coverage while you are young. I didn't and should have.

Look up A.D. Banker on the internet and sign up for their Health insurance course. It is usually two days and you will learn a lot. Take the test and get yout license. You will receive all kinds of mail asking you to sell health insurance. Pick one out and sell in your off gig hours. Buy a policy. The class will be filled with young ladies out of college and some out of high school. Pick a smart one and marry her. Women outsell men by 3 to 1.

Look up social security supplemental insurance on the internet. The government runs a very good site. Those companies also provide regular insurance for people like you.

You must get it while you are young and healthy. Any major problems will exclude you from coverage. Don't tell them anything.

Your state will have a high risk insurance pool if you need it. Very expensive.

I had a Health and Life insurance license several years ago and I learned a lot. It is now expired.

Tootsal: A preexisting medical condition has to be on record with a doctor. When you give them a list of doctors they will find out without having to tell them. (Chiropractors can ruin your medical coverage.) Don't volunteer information that a doctor has not diagnosed.

Life insurance is totally different. He didn't ask about life insurance so I didn't comment on it. I had the Life endorsement on my license.
If he takes the medical insurance course for his state he'll learn everything he needs to know.

And they will still scream "Pre-existing Medical Condition" and you suddenly realized (or would have, if you weren't already dead) that you wasted all of those life premiums! Biggest scam going is "life insurance on loans (car, mortgage, line-of-credit). Your estate will NEVER collect unless it's an out-and-out accident.

Re: Health Insurance

Don't forget disability insurance, both long term and short term.

Find yourself an employee that works for a the government. I pay a whopping 100 bucks and change a month for family health coverage. A few dollars for life, and disability. I also have dental coverage, post retirement health insurance options in addition to the pension plan.

Re: Health Insurance

SAve up about 12 Grand a year and get what you want!

better yet, whatever you do, get an HSA to cover any unexpected dings in your health and then find a supplemental plan to deal with anything catastrophic.

Sounds like stchasking has some great advice there, and good luck. Just remember that there's a difference between insurance and maintenance. Most of us have a maintenance plan that we call "Insurance". In reality, if you're willing to sock away some money into a health savings account, then all you really need is catastrophic insurance.

Last year was the most I've ever spent in my life (not including premiums) on healthcare, and that was because of my sleep-study/cpap/etc. I spent $4600 on everything last year. Our most expensive child-birth was only $4200. So unless you have conditions which require you to frequent the doctor's office, and you don't seem the type, then I think an HSA with a minimal insurance plan might be the most economically feasible for you. (The hospitals are also much less likely to bill you for "extras" if they know you're paying out of your own pocket....)

Re: Health Insurance

Jimmy S. left off the health insurance thing from his song but he makes a point.

If you wanna be happy
For the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife,
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall.
As soon as he marries her
Then she starts to do
The things that will break his heart.
But if you make an ugly woman your wife,
You'll be happy for the rest of your life,
An ugly woman cooks her meals on time,
She'll always give you peace of mind.

Don't let your friends say
You have no taste,
Go ahead and marry anyway,
Though her face is ugly,
Her eyes don't match,
Take it from me she's a better catch.

Say man.
Hey baby.
Saw your wife the other day.
Yeah?
Yeah, she's ugly.
Yeah, she's ugly but she sure can cook.
Yeah?. Okay.

Re: Health Insurance

Consider as many insurance options that you can. Another one to consider that was not mentioned is Oxford. They are affordable in comparison to some of the other plans mentioned. You have two option plans under them: Liberty and Freedom.
