Re: Into the Woods

Hal Leonard. Great information. Thank you everybody.
I like pic in A, also. It sounds much better than B flat.

I'll post this again. But, ITG 2009 will be held at the Hilton in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
I encourage Wilmer and the trumpet masters to call the host and ask for a lecture slot or a performance slot. I am sure we can give you topics. It is ok to ask. Being on the venue is great and being a part of a backup plan for the host is good too. Jens needed a backup plan a few times.

Re: Into the Woods

I played Cats this past March. The picc solo at the end - play it the 1st time on A picc, then switch to Bb picc for when it changes keys.

Reason? The 1st time, it's in written C# major. "A" picc lets you play in D.

The 2nd time, it's up a half step, written in D major. "Bb" picc puts you ... in.... well ... D.

There is enough time between to reset your tuning pipe from A to Bb.

These solos are some of the most exposed things you'll ever play on a show. I understand it was the downfall of many subs when the show was on Broadway. You'll thank me later for this suggestion.

Boy do I ever feel stupid...just realized I posted this in the wrong topic. However, if ya ever play "Cats," this is still valid stuff.

I'm gonna go practice now.

Re: Into the Woods

I read somewhere that if you can't play a picc part on a Bb trumpet you won't be able to play it on a picc either. But is it any easier to play picc parts on a picc than on a Bb trumpet? (I find it slightly easier to play a high part on Eb than Bb trumpet, but only slightly).

Re: Into the Woods

I found out from the license holder that I cannot get the individual parts.

The good news is that it is playing in Kirksville, Missouri in July and O'Fallon, Missouri in November. I will be able to catch a rehearsal in Kirksville and a show. The show in O'Fallon is with a church group. That may be an opportunity to play the gig in preparation for Spring 2009.

I hope the church group is not the Junior edition. The Junior edition is for 9th grade and lower.
