Hey I know it 5'7" on a good day! (a real good day!)

Yeah, one gig and I'm in between Bill Hart at 6'3" and Ray Oset at about the same.

They were like giant bookends!

anyway, nice gig Tony!

Are you a regular backup for her?

No, just a one shot deal.

Has anyone been to the show before? It's literally about 30 degrees in there. Tough on the horn!

Who was that comedian last night? What a character!

"Does Bush eat rice?".... oh man.... you could hear the pressure changing in the room with that one liner....

Yeah, the comic was something. Might've crossed the "line" with a few comments!

I believe that because Letterman doesn't like to be seen sweating on camera, they go overboard with the AC. Yikes!

The Brooklyn Philharmonic played there twice. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr.
The first time we did the "William Tell Overture," the Lone Ranger froze his behind off. The next time the idiot first trumpet player decided to play the last movement of the Beethoven Ninth on the D trumpet It was even colder than the first time. This is the place to do the Vaughan-Williams "Symphonia Antarctica."

I used to work at a local TV station and it's pretty frigid in all of them. Keeping the talent from sweating under the lights is one reason. The other is to keep the temperature of the equipment itself down so that it won't overheat. All of the computers, monitors, lights, cameras, etc. generate tons of heat. Where I worked, the AC was on 58 F all the time.

Great playing, Tony!

Thanks Matt - that reasoning makes sense! I don't know how those guys working there don't get sick.

Re: on Letterman with Macy Gray

Tony,
You mentioned that you didn't think you'd be on camera, but you were in pretty plain view quiet often. Hey were you on the riser too? Just kidding. It sounded good though. I could have used more of the horns in the mix and less of the electric stuff though.
If anyone is in Northern New Jersey this weekend, come out to Trumpets Jazz club in Montclair on Sunday night and see the New Jersey City University Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Lab Band perform.

Re: on Letterman with Macy Gray

John Chudoba made the very same comment regarding the temperature there.
