Re: Maria Schneider - Sky Blue

"The Pretty Road" and "Sky Blue" are my favorite tracks. Unbelievably beautiful. I love how tastefully you play on all the albums I've heard on. It's never about the "high note," it's always about the shape of the phrase. Easily the most musical lead playing I've ever heard. Thank you.

Re: Maria Schneider - Sky Blue

That's a very nice compliment - thank you!

Maria's music is very much "not about the high note", so it would be impossible (I hope) to play it that way. Though I love high notes too! Just not on her gigs.

Thanks -
Tony

Re: Maria Schneider - Sky Blue

P.S. I should also mention that Jason Carder plays lead on the "Sky Blue" track.

Thumbs up Re: Maria Schneider - Sky Blue

...it's just nice to hear lead players make music and not just high notes sometimes (although I love high notes as much as the next guy). It seems like she only gives you a few chances per album to let loose and it makes it even more effective. Very cool stuff.
