It seems that the similarities between the two horns can better be addressed by Leigh.

As far as I know, the first couple of feet of tubing is the most critical for sound production. Having that said, making the tuning slide stationary would help especially when that same tuning slide is of a different thickness and fits very losely.

I don't know how other Taylor horns of even the same model are fitted together; however, I can say that tightening up this horn should only produce good results.
