byron stripling

Hi all,

Byron Stripling is a truly remarkable player. I saw him with Count Basie and Ray Charles Big Bands playing lead trumpet and he truly " Swang his a** off " and really got both those great bands to play at top levels.

His jazz playing is also something to hear and IMO,very reminiscent of the late Clifford Brown.( if you can even get close to playing like Clifford )with a touch of Don Fagerquist, west coast pioneer.

If you haven’t seen the video clip of Byron, Chuck Findley, Arturo Sandoval and Randy Brecker with the GRP all-stars check out:

www.trumpetstruff.com/home and click on Byron Stripling and take a look at the " Cherokee " Video clip. As great as the other 3 players play (and are) Byron captures " Clifford " the best for my money.

If you want to see a great video of Count Basie with Byron playing lead get " Diane Schurr & the count Basie Orchestra " circa 1987 - trpt section
