| In Bakersfield,CA ( not far from Los Angeles) there is a retired trumpet-- Johnny Lacertoso. His eye sight went away and he gave up teaching many years ago. He was THE teacher for decades.
He played in the studios until he was drafted in '39. He tells stories of taking lessons from Maggio, running around with Harold Mitchell- they would go down to the Olds factory and test horns for them. And he speaks of greats like Mannie Klein.
He said he played lead for Stan Kenton for a short time also.
The war changed his studio days and he never returned to the studios. |
