| 'Sketches' was one of the first CDs I ever bought. It's easy to think that the 'Concierto' is the only great piece on this album, but there are some other really great bits, especially "Solea". Well worth getting if you don't have it already.
Personally, I prefer the Gil Evans arrangement to Rodrigo's original (for example - the way he orchestrates the guitar chords around the woodwind is just brilliant.) ... but maybe that's me being biased as a trumpet player. |
