MUSICandCHARACTER is an unknown quantity at this point
I was raised near there (moved to Indiana about 2 years ago). Where Denver University is is about 2 miles from where I got my Master's Degree at Denver Seminary.

The University of Denver is a nice campus, but the area is very urban. Nice backdrop, you can see the Rockies very clearly.

But plan to leave the DU area to see some of Colorado's real beauty. From Denver you can drive up I70 and then over Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mtn. National Park and end up in Estes Park. It is a beautiful drive, up over 10,000 ft with amazing views. Estes Park is a nice little town with lots of shops and restaurants. It is at 8000 ft! Then down the mountain through Loveland (my home town) or Longmont and back to Denver. It will take nearly a day to do this drive if you stop and take in the sights.

The Colorado Rockies baseball team will be in town all those days. A game at Coors Field is worth the time too (playing the Red Sox and then the Orioles in Interleague play).

IF you are taking the family, a drive up I70 then US40 to Winter Park is great. A nice drive, but even more fun when you get to Winter Park. It is a ski resort that converts to a summer fun place. There is a long concrete "bobsled" ride that goes down the mountain. You can rent mtn. bikes or mtn. scooters and the chair lift will take you to the top (doing the hard part) and you can ride (read coast) down many, many different trails. They have a rock climbing wall, putt-putt golf, a human maze and lots of fun stuff.

Denver can be a fun place. 6 Flags Eliches is a great amusement park, Water World in Westminster (a northern suburb) is a hugh water park. Like I said, I grew up there and my Dad still lives there and is a retired golf pro. If golf is your thing, there is nothing liking playing a mtn. golf course.

Oh .... and there is this trumpet thing going on there too.
