![]() | Alex Sipiagin What is the general "buzz" on this cat? I am of the opinion that he is the man right now on the scene, and he deserves more acclaim than he is presently receiving! I have heard "Sasha" many, many times with the Mingus Big Band and own a few of his recordings both as a leader and sideman. A brilliant improviser ( very modern via Woody), great technique, sweet sound in ALL registers, and he makes it look (& sound) so effortless.

![]() | Re: Alex Sipiagin Terrific player. He dominated the big trumpet section a couple weeks back when the Mingus band came to Chicago to play Epitaph. got the lion's share of the solos and played his a** off.Crackling sound. First time I saw him he was playing the Faddis part on Little Royal Suite and he killed it. Michael McLaughlin

![]() | Re: Alex Sipiagin I am a HUGE Alex Sipiagin fan. He just had a new Criss Cross Album come out, "Prints", that I got yesterday, and I think he has one coming out(or just came out) on Artist Share too. Alex was nice enough to let me interview him for a class I was taking last year, and was really genuine and sincere, even got me into a show he was playing that night for free. He even actually used a transcription I did of his solo on "mood 2" during his last artist share project as part of one of the packages.(sorry for any transcription mistakes, that sh@% was HARD!) I think this is going to be a big year for Alex, he's now playing with Dave Holland's Sextet and Octet, which are starting to tour more, hopefully they'll put out a cd soon. I just wish he would do more gigs playing his own music. On a seperate note, Ingrid, you were tearin' it up at the 55 bar a few week ago with your Quartet. I wish I could have stayed around and got to talk to you about what kinda stuff you still practice and what you did/still do of Laurie's stuff (i've been studying with her for a few years), but you seemed to be swamped with fans so I didn't bother you.(I was the tall skinny guy that just said 'great show')haha. Hopefully i'll catch you again in the near future around New York
