I dig the records with the Turrentine Bros. I would second Blue Mitchell/Junior Cook and Freddie Hubbard/Tina Brooks as well.

I love the work that Bryan Lynch and Conrad Herwig have done together.

Re: Favorite Front LIne

Everybody put some great groups.

My favorite will always be Miles Davis/Wayne Shorter in the 60's.

I love everyone else's choices too.

Re: Favorite Front LIne

Miles, Trane, and Cannonball get my vote. 3 entirely different voices melting together perfectly!

Miles and Wayne are right there as well!

Booker Little - Julian Priester - Eric Dolphy

What a great sound on the March 17, 1961 and April 4, 1961 recordings done for Candid which eventually ended up in the "out front" album.
The compositions are AWSOME, and the front line really plays these rather difficult charts extremely well.

Re: Favorite Front LIne

I gotta agree with Wayne and Miles as my favorite, but I really love the sound of Woody Shaw and Joe Henderson...I think their sounds compliment eachother really well

Re: Favorite Front LIne

I was just listening to "Doin' the Thing" Live at the Village Gate from the Horace Silver Quintet, and the front line of Blue Mitchell and Junior Cook has got to be one of the tightest around. Those cats are perfect on unison lines and sound great together!

A couple of more obscure ones:
Art Pepper and Chet Baker on the Playboys Sessions
Gerry Mulligan and Johnny Hodges for the GM meets... sessions
All the others mentioned are ace but my favourites are:
Miles and Trane
Bird n Diz
Brownie and Harold Land

Heard Blue Mitchell and Art Pepper (ca. 1978) in a one nighter in Salem OR. INCREDIBLE!
Woody Shaw and Dexter Gordon!
Another vote for Nat and Cannonball !
