Re: Glad to be here!

Hi from Australia Ingrid!!!
You know you have one of our best exports playing with you (wonder if Matt can remember doing a little gig with me at Il Primo in Lygon St!!!!!!!)
Are you planning to make it down here in the future?
Also, how do you keep your chops up when you are on the road?
Thanks!

Re: Glad to be here!

It is great to have Ingrid on TM. I saw her give a clinic a couple of years ago at Western Carolina University and it was excellent. If you ever have the opportunity to attend one her clinics you should do so.

Welcome aboard!

Mike

Re: Glad to be here!

Hello from the road TM forum folks!
Thanks for the questions-and yes, please call me Ingrid.
I am about as far from Australia as one can get right now Giannim.
Am currently trekking through the snow-covered Swedish countryside in a cozy tour bus/van with my friends from Nordic Connect. We’re having a great time making good original music and tasting the local aquavit while trying to hock our project, Flurry. The CD is finished now and available on ArtistShare through my site and there is already a lot of bonus content up thanks to my husband Jon (the drummer in the band) who has been uploading some great road footage as we tour away. Last night’s gig in Borlangen was pretty cool and my chops FINALLY started feeling better. They got pretty trashed from cold sores and no time to warm up properly, but thanks to two luxurious days off in Stockholm I was able to rest and shed. As far as the question, what do I do to keep my chops up on the road (?) goes- the answer is-whatever I can find time to do! If it’s a 15 minute window, I’ll do the 6 note study (lips/mouthpiece/horn) and some Adam Pipe exercises while getting my head into the first tune of the gig. I have a tuner that plays various pitches and I’ll put it on the key center of the tune (or the first chord) and do the tones over it while feeling the tempo of the piece as well. I will also take advantage of the sound check time to get things together, rather than going for everything right off the bat, I will pace and find my sound in relation to the room and the mix. I do have a silent brass as well and was shedding at JFK before I took off for Sweden-some people stared at me or did double takes as they walked by.More on road shedding to come…
Ij
PS-thanks for the welcome John-great to be here!I hope things are looking up ! peace, ingrid

Re: Glad to be here!

Welcome to the TM Ingrid!

I'm a sophmore at the Baltimore School for the Arts. I was playing (badly) in my combo class today and my instructor asked me if I'd ever talked to you. I replied that I'd only done so online. He proceded to remind me that you teach down the street from my school and that it's not that hard to walk around the corner....

Glad to have you here!

Re: Glad to be here!

Now that I've read Nordic, been reminded of the name, Odd, I didn't see you here when I registered, but last night was sorting music and saw a date from 2006 said "surf Ingrid Jensen trumpet re: jazzfm/Ross Porter" odd that, had to go to that 'nordic' tune from iceland, There will never be another you for a half hour on the piano to get that outta my system...

btw JAZZ.FM91 Canada's Premier Jazz Station, Toronto, Ontario. I love listening to that..and Jeff Healy is a sort of pal..I think he knows my voice!

Re: Glad to be here!

Hi Ingrid,

Just want to welcome you. I haven't been on the website in a while and just noticed that you were on here. I first heard you play on a television show where you were playing a solo on Caravan with DIVA. I was very impressed. I still have that on videotape. Hope to catch you performing somewhere in the near future. I'll ask some questions regarding jazz improv later when you're not so swamped with questions.
