Ingrid's choice of harmon mute

Hey Ingrid,

Sorry if you have already covered this but I was wondering what specific type of harmon you use. The brand known as "Harmon" perhaps? Whatever it is I love the sound you get with it.

Re: Ingrid's choice of harmon mute

I'm back!
barely-the lag is rough but I missed some of the nasty hot weather here in Ny by hanging in Finland for a few extra days so I consider myself lucky.

Harmon- old harmon.....copper, got it from Carroll music when they were clearing out their stock rooms before moving.

Re: Ingrid's choice of harmon mute

thanks Larry, it plays pretty well in tune and sounds so much better than my old (tin) one I used to play on. A harmon brand too, but nothing like the gift from Carroll...

Thanks Ingrid. An actual Harmon (vintage) was what I suspected.

Re: Ingrid's choice of harmon mute

Carroll's had those Dizzy Gillespie harmons just laying around. I wonder did they give those mutes away?

Re: Ingrid's choice of harmon mute

I would have to agree with Ingrid-I prefer an old school harman brand mute. They may not be as in tune as the bubble mutes, but they have the classic '50s Miles tone more than other brands. This applies to the older ones-the new harmon brand mutes that I have tried sound different. It seems they have changed the design enough to alter the sound. This is just my opinion-no right or wrong choice :)
