Re: Most Lyrical Jazzer Just as I was going to type Thad Jones, I read Ingrid’s response. This lyricism is what I strive for when I pick up the trumpet and the old Martin Imperial flugelhorn. What has kept me listening to jazz is this “lyricism.” I’ve been listening to Art Farmer so much (played a transcribed solo of his from memory), Thad Jones (love his solos from his big band and play along with them), and Kenny Dorham (love his ballads on Quiet Kenny). Art just happens to be my personal favorite. I also like Warren Vache on cornet and Jeremy Pelt on flugelhorn. Joe Magnarelli (Mags) comes to mind when John Swana is mentioned. I love CT on Porgy and Bess. When Ingrid plays the flugelhorn, I just love it, in small group or with a big band. She can make the technical sound so lyrical on the trumpet. By the way, I will hear and see you perform tomorrow night, Ingrid! Great thread! Janell Last edited by trumpetdiva1 : 05-20-2007 at 01:42 PM.

Re: Most Lyrical Jazzer There are too many players that offer their own beautiful approach to lyrical playing. This is a short list of some of my favorites--- Art Farmer Chet Baker Clark Terry Miles Davis Johnny Coles Tom Harrell Tony Fruscella Shorty Rogers Warren Vache Woody Shaw Kenny Wheeler Jimmy Owens Jay Thomas Harry "Sweets" Edison.....I know that I've skipped a few, but I love them all.

Re: Most Lyrical Jazzer I really love the stuff that Don Fagerquest has done - he plays so easily, sounds like he's sittin in a rocker! We can't over look Cliffords favorite player - Fats Navarro

Re: Most Lyrical Jazzer I had the opportunity to hear Ingrid perform last night at the 55 Bar. Her playing was phenomenal! I loved her “Ninety One” solo on the flugelhorn from her “Here on Earth” recording. It was totally lyrical! Janell
