There is no one particular horn that is usually used in a college band and/or jazz ensemble.

If you are buying a horn and are just entering college, you should think about contacting the music department and talking to your future trumpet instructor to get their recommendations.

When you go to purchase a horn, take someone like your teacher with you to try the horns out as well and offer a pro opinion, even if you have to pay them for an hour of their time.
