I realize this question is for Manny, but I think I can help you out.
Tempo markings are merely strong suggestions from the composer or editor. As long as you play it musically and tastefully, you should be fine. The adjudicator is not going to be checking up on you with a metronome. You will score much higher playing it as best you can at a slower tempo than you will playing it poorly, to tempo.
That being said, try to get it as close to the markings as possible. But whatever you do, make it sound great. Good luck!
