Both the NY State Opera and Ballet have full orchestras.

There is still a good amount of free-lance work in NYC.

i knew of the opera, but though it was somewhere else in the state. is that the one beverly sills managed for awhile?
i recall skitch henderson leading the tonight show orchestra & doc being in the section. i've heard a few nypops tunes on npr. i thought henderson had died.

Remember the scene in "The Producers" that Zero Mostel danced on the lighted fountain? That took place in the very center of Lincoln Center. The New York State Theater is there, it is the home of The NY State Opera and Ballet, two different orchestras, by the way. The Metropolitan Opera is there,as is the New York Philharmonic's Avery Fisher Hall. Alice Tully Hall and Juilliard are across 65th street.

Beverly Sills managed the NY State Opera for a while.

Skitch is very much alive. The NY Pops is a very busy group. The wonderful Neil Balm is their principal trumpet player.
