Or you might get really lucky and come across a Kanstul that's going for a song (but not likely!)
I loaned my Jupiter 846L to a bandmate over Christmas... he was going to be playing in a church service. Before he performed they made a recording with flugel/organ/piano. Really a nice, superb sound....even his decresc. on a 4th line D slipped into "silence" with no intonation problems. The RL is even more mellow and has a 3rd trigger (which the L does not) so it should be an even better horn. |
I play tested the Jupiter when I bought my flugel and although on the surface the price seems to be right and it's supposed to be a copy of the Yamaha 631, I found that it wasn't even close. I didn't like it AT ALL. By comparisson, it was stuffy and the intonation was poor.
I have used a Yamaha 631 with great success and that is probably going to be your best bet for a used flugel, however, if you can find a used Kanstul and the price is right, get that. I have the Kanstul CCF 925 and although I probably could have afforded the Signature Flugel, this one is fantastic and is probably all I'll ever need.
