| Monette Twins I just received an order for two Monette STC1 mouthpieces. I now have a B1-1 Prana, and a B1-1FL (I love big mouthpieces). For seveal years I have been playing a heavier B1-1Fl (customized by Harrelson) on a Harrelson 965 TritonII. The sound of this mouthpiece was awesome on this heavy horn but too much for my lighter B1 Schilke. Theses new STC1 "twins" as I call them, are nothing short of amazing. Like some who post here, I was skeptical of paying so much for a Mouthpiece-let alone two of them- but after 5 minutes on the horn with these new "bad boys" all I can say is WOW. I am a Prana convert!
Concerning price:If your on a Safari don't waste your money until you know what you want. I played a Schilke 20d2d for 20 years so when I swithced to a Monette mouthpiece 2 years ago I planned on playing Monette for the long haul. Based on this the price is not an issue when you break it downn over years of blistful playing ha.
Here is the"Wow" Prana factor I am experiencing:
Open tonal center through out.
My Schilke literally vibrates with overtones on the Prana...very cool.
Huge fat sound.
Improved upper range ( While I know you don't buy a B1-1 for screaming, the Prana does make hitting high notes easier).
A more brilliant tonal quality.
Con:As has been noted on this thread, the shank is so thin that I am terrified of dropping it. One fall would ruin it. Buy a case!
One last thing that I may have missed reading about here concerning the difference of a Prana or Non Prana Monette, the finish is different on a Prana. On the Prana the exterior cup (not rim or shank) are brushed gold.
Bottom Line: Dave's Mouthpieces for me are transformational!
