My New Selmer Picc and I

Hello all, so I got my new (new to me), Selmer piccolo trumpet, vintage 70s model gold plated with a Blackburn pipes and Reeves alignment, and I must say that I love it!! The only beef that I have with it is that due to my massive hands, it's kind of uncomfortable to hold it, and when I'm playing I can really feel whenever the valve hits down and it sort of messes with how I'm playing. Is this something that most short bell picc owners go through and just get used to, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks a lot folks!
