yeah, the A4A can be overwhelming at times. I've found it can be helped somewhat by really just relaxing the throat, and letting the air just kinda "flow" through it. Works on my Studio, and that's far from a dark sounding horn. You could probably switch to the Schilke 14A4, which is nearly identical to the A4A but with a larger backbore.

Oh, and just to actually try to stay on topic, hope you enjoy the horn.
