| I have been through something similar: trying to find a cornet which will respond (resistance wise) like a trumpet while sounding like a cornet. Thats why I ended up with a Wedgwood. Its easy to switch between them as the reistance is noticeably lower, but I do use a proper cornet V shaped mouthpiece in it.
However.... Denis Wedgwood has actually made at least one cornet with a trumpet receiver on it and a different lead pipe (for a friend) for the same reasons you are suggesting, so its not completely outrageous. However, the mathematics may be a bit more complicated than just chopping a bit off the end of the lead pipe as there are bracing issues on some instruments. |
