Bill, again all my information is 2nd and 3rd hand but what you say makes sense. Howard Snell (the former principal at the LSO and brass band luminary) was one of the first users of the Schilke E3L-4 back in the mid 70s. It wouldn't have been inconceivable for the section to be using them on the original Star Wars recording.

Wilmer, I think I've seen pictures of that C/D you talked about. It had a 4th valve down where your left thumb sits as you hold the trumpet. I'm guessing it was in D and the valve added a tone (you know what I mean!!). Were they big sounding trumpets or lighter sounding like most Ds?
