I found a 1916 Conn New Wonder cornet in a pawn shop in Midland, TX for $25 in about 1985. It was rough, with pitted valve a loose front brace and silver worn thru in a few places, BUT it wasn't dinted at all and had beautiful engraving. I spent around $300 1985-dollars to have it replated and the valve rebuilt. It turned out to be a wonder player.
