Is it like Schilke's that play more open than their bore size because they are step bore. I don't know much about the TT but I wonder whether he may be having air issues as he gets older. He has been smoking for probably 30 years by now.
Any thoughts? |
Well, first, it's a .463" not a .461". If you want to validate for yourself go to the
www.selmer.fr site and look at the metric bore and then convert it to inches. It's right at .463" (very slightly under).
The quick bell flare of the TT and perhaps it's leadpipe (you can't see it and Selmer Paris gives no meaningful guidance, so it's hard to know much about the leadpipe), makes it blow larger than a .463". For me, the nearest Schilke is a B1, which is actually a little less accepting of "big air", but close. The TT really gives the player tons of feedback off the bell and it's very dynamic. The bell is world class, giving a rich palette of overtones either behind or in front of the horn.
