Next size up? What's that about? What's wrong with a Schilke Eleven? Why the compulsion to switch MPs? Many of the greatest artists played that very mouthpiece all their lives, Clifford Brown being probably the best of them. That MP has great presence and depth, a wonderful edgy bite in its tone, terrific projection and a comfortable rim. What do you think you'll find in a different MP? The magic of the upper reegister? Come on.
Someone said that Chet Baker played all his life with the mouthpiece that came with the horn! One night in a club on W. 86th St, I asked him what MP he was playing. He said "I think it's a Bach seven." And, nice guy that he was, he went over to the stand and looked! We had a good laugh over it.
