What everyone failed to point out rearding Rick's response to this thread is that he lives in a country with a radically different view from the US regarding social welfare. i wonder what an anti union musician in Canada would say if health care was something he had to pay for himself. Or old age pensions.
I sadi it before, I'll say it again. I pay less than $5000.00 a year for my family plan health insurance. That is only possible because of Local 802. And that only happened because enough musicians were interested in taking matters intotheir own hands to improve their lot. The Union is the tool that allows us to do that. Rick, if you are unhappy with your union, show up to a meeting and speak your piece. Maybe under your leadership, the local union can do much more than it does to protect musicians in your fair city.
