My half-brother is in the Terry Schiavo category and has been since 1973 when he entered this world. He is now 32 and requires an enormous amount of care. For families in these situations, there are tiers of pain, frustration and burden beyond belief. Witnessing my brother's soul and personality being held prisoner by his body has been heartbreaking for me. I feel guilty, but there are times when I wish the heavens would take him and set his soul free. As much as I would miss him, I know he would be better off....as would all of us who love him. Damn...now I am starting to cry. Time to stop.
