I have similar experiences with the Bach Megatones. I started out on a Bach 2c, then switched to a 2c megatone.. I quickly noticed a darker sound, but a weakened range and flexibility. After playing on the megatone for a few months, i switched back to a Bach 2c with a 24 trhoat and a NY 7 backbore from Dillon.... in my (and my director's) opinion, the regular Bach mouthpieces have more 'sizzle' to the sound. The only real benefit to a Megatone is that i can use it on the marching field without getting a spread tone.
