| If you view yourself as a trumpet player, you will be a trumpet player. Do not waste your energy trying to convince those who refuse to recognize your talent as a musician because you are female. This is enegy to be used perfecting your craft. If someone is mature and confident enough to recognize talent, they will, those who do not, are probably not worth trying to convince anyway. It will not be easy however, it is not easy for anyone, male or female. It has to come from, YOU, first. If you do not show that you want to be treated as a respected player, you will not.
I do not play trumpet by profession, but I know very well about making it in "A Man's World" . In 1980 I rode my first race as a professional jockey at Belmont Park. This is after a veteran horse trainer told me"you're a very nice little girl but you'll never ride race horses, and this was just to exercise them, not even ride races. Well I have riden in NY, NJ, Maryland and Fla as a professional jockey and won races despite being told many times, you're a very nice little girl, but........
I agree with Billy B, you can start by losing the "trumpet players, the masters of fingering, tonguing and blowing..... " in your posts.
And, although the "female thing" will be somewhat of an obsticle that you will have to overcome, trust me, people don't really want to hear it.
Don't mean to be blunt, but I'm speaking from personal expierence. Just worry about, YOU perfecting your skills and obtaining your goals. The given is, you must of course, have the talent.
