I think that my fellow TMers will agree that you have WAY too much free time on your hands, amigo, but thank you for an interesting topic (!)
I had a quick and memorable lesson with Arnold Jacobs on the stage of Carnegie Hall once after the Chicago Symphony was finished rehearsing (and before the stagehands kicked us off).
I played passages from Bruckner's Eighth in my best (worst) CSO imitation -- as loudly as I could play. Jake then asked me to play again but back off by 20% and the result was much louder. Was this a matter of finding more resonance or simply that by playing tutta forza my effort was interfering with my flow? Both perhaps, and only the stagehands know for sure.
