| After looking at your post again, it would be a little harder to do than I thought. I didnt even think about the distance part of it. You would need a very quiet environment first off, so a conference room full of people playing high notes would be bad.
You would need a very large room, and im not sure how to do the DB and distance. The first thing and easiest, but most equipment is to have multiple mics and the different distances going to different computers saving information from the same note. You could use one mic and computer, but it would be a new note from the player at each distance and that causes problems.
I am not an audio eng. so i am not an expert. I used TrueRTA in stereo setups and tuning. You should call someone who really knows the software in your area. Im sure there is a audio guy at whatever college is around.
This seems like a Mythbusters show in the making, hehe.
