| audition playing Vs ensemble playing
As a high school player, most auditions require Arban studies, solos, and etudes rather than orchestral excerpts. So forgive me for sounding naive when I ask:
Do you play orchestral excerpts the same way in an audition that you would in the ensemble???
I've had some decent orchestral experiences now, and I'm beginning to understand a lot of principles of sound that are essential to cutting through big orchestras. (I'm thinking mainly of articulations, but there are others) Some of these techniques essential for balance and effect in the ensemble would sound ridiculous and occasionally crass when playing alone.
So, do you play the way you would in the orchestra to let the audition committee know you can? Or would you play in a way that is effective for playing alone only.
Does it make sense?? Thanks for any ideas...
