I think he just left the arm "up" a little too far... probably to make sure it cleared the cab of the tractor (or maybe a "headache rack"). Well, he's got a headache now for sure! Most of the guys around here hauling these things put the unit on the rig backwards with the arm towards the rear. Makes sense to me.

Then there was this crane company that I'd hired to come out to the factory and do some work one day. Their lot is in an industrial park and they have to come out around a car dealership to get to the highway. Well, it seems that the dealership decided to park a half-dozen new Dodge Ram diesel pickups on the grassy verge next to the highway. The lad driving the crane (one of those articulated, 10-wheel jobs made by Krupp of Germany) misjudged the corner and the "boom hook/weight" wiped out four of the brand-new trucks! (I think they fixed 'em up and the crane company decided to use them for company vehicles instead of going after the insurance!) The dealership keeps their trucks ON their lot now.
