| Actually, it's terrible to think of all the great Trumpet Concertos that could have been written by great 20th century composers when one considers the great trumpet writing in their music: Britten, Vaughan Williams, Stravinsky, Nielsen, Prokofiev, Copland, Barber, etc, etc, etc. Let's face it: our best pieces are by relatively minor composers, (save for Haydn), and are not even of "first rate" quality. Now, don't get all bent out of shape by that comment. It's just that Tomasi, Jolivet, even Hummel are not really on the same caliber as the composers in the first list above.
