Micro-tonal scales are an acquired taste and I find them to be very interesting indeed.
Marcinkiewicz makes a quarter tone trumpet which is far superior to thr old Holton design that Don Ellis played. I prefer the .25 tone flugelhorn, however. The overtones produced by the larger horn keep a descending scale from sounding like a total wipe-out.
I had my Couesnon 4 valve flugelhorn modified last year at the suggestion of Markus Stockhausen, who has the same. The 4th valve lowers everything by a .25 tone. VERY cool and an improviser's dream. If only language were so easy. . .
